Bond With Children Through Books
Bond with Your Child through Books
Books are more than just words on paper, they are also a way that you can spend time learning about your child, and teaching him about the world. Reading books is an important part of childhood, especially when you spend that time with someone you love.
Make Time to Read
When you read children’s books, you may notice that the books are very short and simple. This is a cue for you to take some extra time to talk about the book with your child. There is a lot you can learn about your child by discussing childrens literature.
You will need approximately one hour to read and discuss a book for children. Many parents simply rush through the reading, and do not take the time to talk about the story with their child. This is a mistake, however, since the discussion of childrens literature is an important part of bonding through reading.
Undivided Attention
Make sure that when you schedule you’re reading routine that it will be during a time when you and your child are both relaxed and have enough time to read and discuss the book you are reading. Many parents choose bedtime for reading books, but anytime that you have enough time and are relaxed is good.
By choosing a relaxing and unhurried time of day, you can give your child your undivided attention. It is important for your child to know that you are willing to listen to his or her opinions and ideas and by doing so you will both feel like sharing important parts of your day.
Begin Early
Even babies love to be read to. You can watch your child as she listens to your voice, responding even if she does not understand what you are saying. Reading children’s literature will give your child a boost in language development, and allow them to bond with you on a daily basis.
You can even find free children’s books online, which are also animated. Free children’s books are a good resource for kids who love to read, but do not have a wide selection of books at home. With very small babies, it does not matter what you read as long as you are reading to your child. They love the attention, and you will be able to bond over any story that you have on hand.
Bonding Happens
Bonding with your child is one of the most important parts of being a parent, and in today’s technology based world, it is becoming harder and harder for parents to do. Next time you have a free hour, or even a few minutes, take some time to read a book for children with your son or daughter instead of turning on the TV. You will be glad you did.
